Is Your Home Looking A Little Dull? Here's How You Can Update It On A Budget

Many parents struggle financially, don't worry, you aren't alone. It’s hard earning enough to pay the bills and put food on the table, let alone having anything left over to spend. As a mom, when money is tight, it can be hard to keep your home looking good, especially when updating it can be incredibly expensive.

If money is tight, but your home could do with a bit of an update, there’s no need to worry. There are plenty of ways you can update your home on a small budget, all it takes is a little bit of creative thinking.

To help you update your home and transform it into a space you love, without breaking the bank, we have put together these simple tips:

Go down the DIY the route

Don’t make the mistake of hiring someone to do your decorating - decorators tend to be expensive. Instead, go down the DIY route and do all your design and decorating yourself.

It might take a little longer to get things done, but by choosing to decorate yourself, you will save a lot of money. If the idea of dealing with all the decorating yourself is overwhelming, you could always rope in a friend or relative to help you.

Get materials from discount stores

Whether you want to paint or wallpaper your home, buy your materials from discount stores. Buying things full price from DIY stores is likely to blow your whole budget in one go, that’s why it’s important to be savvy and shop smart.

A can of paint bought from a discount store could cost half the price of a can of paint bought from a regular DIY store. If there are no discount DIY stores in your area, have a look online for DIY sites that offer discounts.

Be smart about furniture

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that all furniture has to be brand new. Buying new furniture is expensive and will take a massive chunk of your budget. Instead, start off by revamping any old furniture with paint or varnish - it’s amazing how different this can make it look.

If there is any furniture that can't be revamped and needs replacing, start off by having a look online. Visit websites like Gangahogar, to get an idea of the type of furniture you can buy at low prices - you will be surprised at the quality on offer.

Get your carpets cleaned

Instead of having your carpets replaced, which can be incredibly expensive, why not get them cleaned? While carpet cleaning can be pricey, it’s much cheaper than having all your flooring replaced.

If getting your carpets cleaned is too pricey, consider investing in a large rug or two. Carpets can make all the difference to a house, so if they are in bad repair, a rug could do the trick.

Just because money is tight, that doesn’t mean you can’t transform your home. While it might take a little more work, updating your home on a small budget is doable, it just takes a little creativity, that’s all.
